Disable Ubiquity unifi DNS lookup every few secods

I own a Ubiquiti Wireless Access point, but without network controller, so it is used in stand-alone mode.

Still, this device tries to contact its network controller all few (3-5) seconds, issuing a DNS query ubiquiti.[local.domain]. This leads to about 28’000 queries each day, only for looking up a non-existing and non-configured controller!

Disabling it is straight-forward, once you find out how:

  1. Log in to the access point using SSH
  2. issue the following command:
wireless-ap> set-inform http://127.0.0.1/inform

This way, the controller is set to a (non-existing) local ip, and it don’t bother to query the DNS anymore.
